12/1/22-Stanley has been busy. He joined in on the Thanksgiving holiday where he was in the company of another mini bernedoodle. He was fine with her although they did not engage in play. I am coming to the conclusion that Stanley is fine with other dogs, but is most happy being around humans. This may change, but as of right now, Stanley will greet and briefly romp around with other dogs, but then he just chills out next to his human companions. Stanley is extremely nervous getting into the car. I have to pick him up and carry him. I had to do the same thing going into the vet. He is that nervous. Stanley was a huge hit at the vet. He had all the ladies lined up taking pictures of him! Seriously! He is such a charmer. As nervous as he was (he was shaking the entire time) he allowed the vet, vet techs, and his admirers examine and pet him without ANY sign of aggression. Stanley continues to be a very low key, chill dog. His favorite things to do are go for walks and snuggle.

11/23/22-Stanley is making steady progress. It’s like watching students learning to read; small gains one day, back to square one the next, repeat routine daily, and then he does it on his own. This week’s gain is he is eating his food without the wet food added in. I have to leave him in the kitchen with it and when I come back he is eating or is finished. Stanley had a play date with a male 7-month old Aussie. He was friendly and outgoing and wanted to be part of the fun. He playfully ran around the yard with my dog and the Aussie. He did try mounting the male un-neutered Aussie, maybe as a show of dominance, but there was no issue at all between the pups. Stanley can be a bit stubborn and wants to do what he wants to do. We are working on basic obedience training right now, which is tricky because Stanley is not food/treat motivated. He does love pets, hugs, and kisses though, which is a great reward and a win win in my book!

11/14/22-Stanley, or Stan the Man as I affectionately refer to him, continues to make progress and is well on his way to living his best life. He is eating a little better, but still needs to be enticed with some wet food mixed in with his dry food. In the morning after being let out of his crate, he will run to the door to go potty and then he will apprehensively and nervously run back in through those same doors to eat. I still have to be quiet and still while he eats. He is still easily spooked, but his bowl is now being emptied at both feedings. We are working on him coming through those back doors on his own all the time. For some reason he is nervous about it even though he has gone through those doors plenty of times. Stanley is playful in the fenced in backyard. What Stanley mostly wants is to be petted and to have his human nearby.
Stanley continues to do well on his leashed walks. We walk 3-4 miles each morning after his breakfast and 1-3 miles at night. He is very interested in squirrels. Each time he spots one he will try to run up to it forgetting he is on a leash held tightly in my hand. Stanley enjoys being brushed after our walks. House training is going very well. He has not had any accidents in the house since his first day. I can tell when he needs to go potty and I am working on him ringing a bell attached to the door as a signal. He has done it once! Stanley was a perfect gentleman during his first dinner party. He let people come up to him, greet him, pet him, and shower him with love and treats. He was the perfect host. Stanley still needs to come completely out of his shell, but he is well on his way!

11/6/22-Stanley is a mini bernedoodle who was on death row at an Amish puppy mill in Ohio. Thanks to Second Chance Boxer Rescue’s amazing volunteers, Stanley made it to his foster home and is beginning his new leash on life. Stanley is gaining confidence every day. He enjoys being outdoors, being close to humans, and being petted. He does fine with the cats and dog in the house, with little to no interaction at all. I do feed Stanley away from my dog to avoid any conflict over food. Stanley does not mind being in his crate and sleeps through the night without having to go out. Stanley is doing very well with leash walking. He does not pull; he walks right by my side. He has the cutest little strut. Stanley is slowly coming into his own and will make a great addition for the right family.

11/2/22-Stanley is an adorable 18 month old male mini bernedoodle (mini poodle/Bernese mountain dog) saved from a puppy mill. He arrived safely into rescue tonight thanks to his transport volunteers & temporary foster home. He is being neutered on 12/6 & will be ready to go home soon after. Updates soon from his foster home!
