09/15/2021 – Since the last time I wrote to you, I’ve had a busy and exciting couple of weeks! Foster mom actually watched a friend’s 16 week old puppy and she gave me and my foster brothers a run for our money! She was constantly on the move, I would play with her and then she’d go to each of my foster brothers, we were all tired but she kept on going. I tried to nurture her as one of my puppies but she never wanted to settle.  Foster mom was so proud of me! She’s still singing to me…..I’m waiting for my family to save me!

After the puppy left, we took a ride up to Connecticut and stayed with another foster home for a few days. I proved to be the perfect house guest – I actually ate outside my crate in a sunroom with my 2 foster brothers. Another thing that foster mom was really proud of me was that when they went out for a while, I stayed out of the crate with one of my foster brothers and another boxer boy. You see, another foster came into the group and needed the crate more than I did. When the nice lady who dropped the foster off, saw me, she couldn’t believe how much I changed and how outgoing I’ve become! I’m loving this new life I’m discovering.

I would love thiS new life even more, if I had a family to call my own. Remember, in the beginning it may be a little scary for me, but in time, I’ll come to love you and trust you just like I’m doing with my foster family now!

08/20/2021 – I need to be rescued! My foster mom thinks she can sing and is constantly singing this song which goes like this – Too-ra-loo-ra-loo-ra, too-ra-loo-ra-li, Too-ra-loo-ra-loo-ra, Tori I love you – but the problem is she can’t carry a tune. I can’t even pretend that I like it…..she doesn’t sing to my foster brothers, only me. Please as much as I love my foster mom and family, I need a home of my own.

Foster mom is so excited with me because as she’s preparing our food, we all stay together and watch her, then when it’s ready, I run to my station to wait patiently for her to put it down. No longer am I nervous of my surroundings, I just eat and I eat it all up! No more eating in my crate for this girl! Afterwards, my foster brothers and I scope out each other’s dishes to see if someone left something but nope, it’s all gone.

I love when company comes and visits, I get all these wonderful hugs and pets, and it makes me feel so good! I keep thinking that maybe I’ll go home with one of them but it doesn’t happen. Foster mom said that I have come such a long way and she’s so proud of me. Everyone, once and a while I have an accident in my crate. Foster mom is ok with it because she knows accidents happen.

Oh wait, I forgot to tell you my new thing that I do in the yard! I run around it and chase my foster brothers! The first time I did it, foster mom couldn’t believe it was me! I think she captured it on video, hopefully she can have it posted. I’m not the same girl that came back into rescue all those months ago and foster mom is so pleased with me.

Of course, I still have some nervous moments but they don’t last too long! Remember, I’m still looking for a home to call my own, so please don’t let me be tortured anymore with foster mom’s singing!

07/23/2021 – My foster mom says I’m all full of myself this morning! I think it’s because I sense my family is out there and will come for me soon! This morning I’ve been playing with my foster brothers and another dog that is visiting here for a week, while his family is on vacation. I found that I have a lot of spunk (my foster mom said that) and it’s fun to run and play! I found an old toy that I’m just amazed with. I can flip it in the air, chew it and chase after it. We’re all under her feet while she’s trying to work but she’s just happy I’m in the mix!

I had such an exciting weekend 2 weeks ago, I just have to tell you about it! Foster mom took myself and my foster brothers up to see my first foster home! I didn’t know where we were going but my foster mom walked all 3 of us on leashes to the car and the boys got in so I followed. When we got there, I received a warm welcome from my previous foster mom and all of her four-legged family members.

When it came time for feeding us, I used to always eat in the crate there but my foster mom didn’t want me to have a setback so I got to eat in the sun porch with my foster brothers! I did very well and ate all of my food without any problems. We all get along so there was no food aggression between us.

On Saturday, I went by myself with my foster mom(s) on a car ride. When we got to our destination, I got out and was greeted by another person, she actually knew my name and was very happy to meet me. We went into her house and immediately, I looked up to see if there were any ceiling fans and there were none. I settled and became comfy. The woman got up from the couch and left us. A few minutes later, she was carrying this big gray thing that I found out was a cat. I have never met a cat before. Seeing the cat didn’t affect me, the cat wasn’t happy with me at first but then settled. We all had a nice visit and then I got to go on a car ride back home to where my foster brothers were.

Foster mom was, how did she put it? She was ecstatic over how good I was seeing the cat. I was a little curious when the cat walked by a few times, but really didn’t try to hurt it or chase it. Foster mom gave me a big hug which I love getting I’m ready for you to come and pick me up and have me live with you. I need my family and you need me. Again, at first I may be a little nervous but with patience and some tender loving care we will all make it!

07/01/2021 – Foster mom was set to do another update on me and I told her I needed to take matters into my own paws! I know my family is out there and I decided that if I do an update on myself, it may work. I’m still struggling at times to fit into this family life as they call it but you have to remember that I spent 98% of my life locked in a crate not being able to do much of anything except have puppies, puppies and more puppies. Now, I’m so grateful for the life I have. I have 2 foster four legged brothers that I love to run and play with.

I’m eating very well and am not having any accidents in the house. Well, I don’t know if you can call this an accident, but foster mom put 2 comfy beds in my crate and I just wasn’t used to them so I kind of messed them up – she says that beds aren’t to take the stuffing out, chew or paw on, but I didn’t know, I never had them to sleep on. As much as they were comfy I just didn’t know how to adjust. In time I’m sure I will but for now, I have a lot of comfy blankets in my crate. I only go in my crate when my foster mom goes out, otherwise I’m allowed anywhere in the house I want to go.

I still have a problem with the ceiling fans. I just can’t help it. Even though I’m given lots of hugs and attention when they’re on, I still run and hide. One day, just maybe one day, I’ll get over it. I’m sure if I was in my forever home, I would blossom to be the dog I was meant to be. Before coming to my foster home, I never knew what it was like to walk on grass or have a gentle touch. Now, when my foster mom comes home, I’m so eager for her to give me lots of love! Also, when I’m asleep and she touches me, I don’t jump for high heaven, I know it’s her just giving me reassurance that I’m ok.

I know my forever home is out there and I’m waiting patiently for you. When I become a member of your family, I hope you’re patient with me because I may be a little shy and cautious at first but I will come to know and love you!

6/9/21 – What a great week Tori had last week! I had the outside of my house painted and Tori had to deal with the house being power washed and scraped before the actual painting could be done. She took it all in stride! She is flourishing more and more with each new day. The other day, I let the dogs go out as I was bringing in the groceries. Tori wasn’t coming so I decided to bring 2 plastic bags filled with groceries in and then go look for her. Tori met me and the bags at the door and instead of running back into the house, she looked at the bags and went out! There was a time when just the site of a plastic bag sent Tori into hiding. When she ran past them, I dropped them and ran after her to give her hugs and tell her what a good girl she was! I actually had to hold back the tears on this accomplishment.

Since the pandemic, I get my hair cut at home. Last week, I had an appointment and Tori was in her spot and when Frank came into the house and didn’t see Tori he actually called her name and she came running excited to see him. She actually was giving him kisses on the hand. She sat on the couch (yes, I let fosters on the furniture) and watched him as he used the buzzer and hair dryer. My girl is really coming out of her shell. She needs a family to keep the flower in her opening and blossoming! Sure, she’ll have some mishaps, but she’ll recover quickly with the love and patience her forever home will give her.

5/20/21 – All I have to say is I’m so proud of the progress Tori is making!  I’ll be honest, she still has a fear of ceiling fans and still continues to be skittish. Several times, I’ve had friends over and Miss Tori is right up with the boys wanting to get attention from them. I went on vacation for a few days and Tori stayed at another foster home with my boys and her dogs and she did great. She actually ran to me when she saw me which made my heart melt.

Depending upon what’s going on, there are times Tori will not eat, unless she’s in her crate and then the next time will eat at her station. Whichever she prefers is fine with me, because she’s eating! Another thing she’s doing well is drinking water in the house. You have to remember, mill dogs are limited to food and water so knowing that she has no fear of drinking in the house or out of a feeding station is big! And of course, she’s still the cuddle bug always wanting to be in my lap for hugs and kisses!

It’s time for Tori to find her forever home – the progress she is making here is wonderful and when she arrives at her forever home, she may have a few setbacks but they will be short lived. Tori needs a home that will give her the tender loving care and most important patience that she needs. She’s coming out of that deep dark hole she was in but it still will take time for her to blossom!

4/22/21 – What a cuddle bug Miss Tori has turned into! She loves to be on the couch with us and will think nothing of stepping over her foster brothers to sit on my lap. She has made such progress in some areas and then in others she still has issues. Her issues are not bad ones, they are ones that require her new home to have lots of patience and be able to give her tender loving care. Tori was eating great out of the crate in a feeding station, and then one time, my boxer clanked his bowl and that made her stop dead in her tracks and scuttle back into the crate she would not finish her dinner. Since that time, she has been eating in her crate. Little steps with this mill momma as I plan to start her outside the crate this weekend.

We’ve gone on a few walks and Tori is not happy leaving her familiar surroundings. She is good on a leash but is always looking around, trying to see if anything is there that may cause her jitters. The wind is something that causes her to scurry around looking for someone or the boys for comfort. Poor baby, last weekend I took out my patio furniture and put my umbrella up.  If looks could kill, the umbrella would be back in the shed!

I give my boys bones and Tori is fine eating the bones around them, my little guy always wants what Tori is chewing on, so he’ll bring his bone and start eating it, he’ll leave it and then of course, Tori will wander over to it, take it and my guy will go get her bone. As long as she has something she’s fine. We love having Tori in our home but she needs to find her forever home. If you have it in your heart to take in a mill momma who is still suffering the after effects of her previous life and are willing to be patient and give out lots of tender loving care and get unconditional love in return, consider adopting this cuddle bug!

3/14/2021 – Miss Tori is taking some amazing steps to come out of her shell, just this morning, I left some bags with groceries outside the side door and went to let the dogs out. She saw the bags but also saw that the boys went right past them, so she did too. Coming back into the house, she looked at them cautiously before scooting passed them.
It’s been windy here the last few days and Miss Tori doesn’t like it. She’ll gravitate to either me or one of the boys when it’s really moving the trees. She’s not happy about that big black grill cover that seems to bellow with the wind. In time she’ll get over it, patience is the key and tender loving care. She is interacting with the boys more and more and will actually lay next to them while I’m working or when we’re just hanging out.
This girl is making great progress and will continue to do so, it’s just going to take time. Miss Tori is already showing signs that she loves to cuddle and loves to get belly rubs, you just have to proceed with patience. More updates to follow on this awesome baby!

3/8/21-As a mill momma, your life is not easy and when you’re retired from the mill sometimes it puts you into a place where it will take you a long time to come out of. This is what happened to Miss Tori, she came out of the mill back in October and was adopted out. Tori was starting to come out of her shell in her new home, she had another dog for company and a loving family. Regrettably, Tori still had her moments, and it was decided to return her to rescue in her best interest.
For 3 weeks now, Tori has been living with 2 foster brothers and myself. She needs a lot of tender loving care as well as some obedience training. There are still things that happen in normal day to day living which can be a setback for Tori, but we are showing her that it’s ok and she will get past it. There’s an active one year-old dachshund that has been trying to play with Tori but she’s not ready yet. She knows the words “come” and “let’s go out”. She loves to snuggle and if you’re not paying attention to her, she smacks you with her paw so you can give her some more loving.
Tori is going to need time to come out of her shell but when she does, watch out world, because I can see she has the potential in her to be an awesome dog and amazing companion. She’s taking her time playing with my boys, but she’s happy when they cuddle with her. She doesn’t search them out but will keep a close eye on where they are while we’re all outside.
Stay tuned on more updates and the adventures of Tori as she starts to explore life outside of the puppy mill.

2/16/21-Unfortunately after 3 months of trying, Tori’s Mom made the tough decision to bring her back to rescue to find another home. She was struggling with acclimating her to people & says Tori is still afraid of everything. She also would not go outside on her own & had to be forced. Updates soon from her foster home as she works with Tori’s adjustment after life as a puppy mill Momma.

11/1/20-Tori was adopted!

10/26/20 Our little Ms. Tori did some traveling this weekend, we traveled to NJ to visit friends for the weekend, and she had the opportunity to see her original traveling companion Kali. She does really well in the car, considering she was traveling with 3 other dogs, and upon arriving she met 3 more dogs she spent the weekend with. Tori still does not show any interest in playing with the other dogs, but she does mingle well with them, even at feeding time. Although Tori is very shy with people, she is getting better every day. Being a mill mamma, everything is new to her.
So far I would say she’s a very quiet girl, but with time and patience, I’m sure she is going to blossom into an awesome companion. I do think she would do best in a home with at least one dog as she follows them and will learn from them. When she first comes out of her crate in the morning, she wants me to pet her and give belly rubs while I’m trying to get all 4 dogs outside to potty. Surprisingly, she has not had any accidents in the house, and only 1 accident in her crate, which is absolutely awesome. So, in just 1 week I’m seeing a gradual relaxation of a very scared little girl and I love watching the transformation in Tori.
So again, stay tuned for more about Tori will be coming soon

10/18/20 We welcomed Ms. Tori to our home last evening, and what a little sweetheart she is. She is friendly and also very cautious about people, but that is to be expected as she came from a Puppy Mill and has not had any socialization, however, that life is now behind her and she is starting a whole new journey in life. After eating her small dinner last night, she enjoyed a spa bath, and seemed to enjoy relaxing in the family area with all the other resident dogs and visiting canines. So please check back soon, as we get to know this little girl better and we look forward to updating you all in a few days
