1/19/23-Duchess continues to amaze me with her progress each day.  She is mastering minor stairs. When she came she had no interest in walking up the stairs on her own. While potty training is still a work in progress; she has begun to go to the door letting us know when she has to go out.  She continues to love her crate, sleeps through the night and will let herself into her crate on her own when looking for some quiet time.  She is great with my dogs and 2 cats (doesn’t chase).  She enjoys being outside.  Each day we’re seeing the bouncy puppy coming out.  She also loves her toys now! She is getting better at eating from a bowl vs from my hands and has a hearty appetite.

She was spayed on Monday & did great. The vet said she has a little flaky skin unnoticeable slight hair loss & was diagnosed as alopecia (fancy medical term for hair loss lol).  He felt it was due to poor diet & living in filth with never being bathed all her life. The vet sent Duchess home with Welactin which is an omega 3 supplement.  This Omega 3 oil is good for many things, I’m this case for skin/coat health.  She’s getting 1 1/2 spoonfuls mixed with her food daily.  She’s not a fan of it so I disguise it in with some purina pro plan moist puppy food mixed into her purina pro plan crunchy puppy food.  There are no noticeable skin irritations or fur issues.. her fur is enviable lol!  We call her our little movie star. With this & being on better food than the mill should help. She really is the sweetest little thing with a fantastic personality. However she’s tough to get a picture of as each time I take the phone out she comes running to me.  Lol

1/15/23-Duchess is the queen of her palace. With her movie star hair and sparkling personality she came in and swept us all off of our feet. She is sweet and patient and has amazed us with how quickly she warmed up to both the kids and dogs. She excitedly bounces around to play and loves her squeaky toys.  She likes her crate to both sleep in and spend quiet time in while we were out. I’m impressed with her ability sleep through the night and there were no accidents in her crate.  She is working on potty training and has quickly learned to go to the door when she needs to go out. She is figuring out eating.  Likes to eat directly from my hands vs a bowl.  On the bright side.  No food aggression.  Or any aggression for that matter. She pays no attention to our 2 cats.
I am just simply impressed with how special she is and how quickly she is coming out of her shell.  My kids say she’s the best foster we’ve ever had.  We have really enjoyed having her these last 24 hours and can’t wait to have her back post spay. Some family will be very lucky to make her theirs and them hers. Duchess will be spayed tomorrow & then ready to go her new home!

1/13/23-Duchess is a stunning 6-8month old Bernese Mountain Dog. She came into rescue today along with her 2 sisters thanks to her great team of transport & overnight volunteer. They were saved from being killed by a puppy mill just because they got too old to sell.  We were told she was 8 months old but she’s on the smaller side and still quite a puppy so could be closer to 6 months. More updates soon from her foster home.
