4/26/22- Gibbs has been doing great! He loves to play with his toys, chew on nylabones and play fetch. He enjoys playing with my great danes. He does need to go to a home with a dog who tolerates his typical puppy behaviors while he is learning manners. Gibbs is crated during the day while we are working and has no accidents. He settles quickly as long as he is in a quiet room and the door is closed. Gibbs knows sit, lay down and is working on not pulling while on a harness.  Gibbs went for his first walk in the town park and did very well with all the distractions! He loves kids and gets excited when he sees them. He is very food motivated and positive reinforcement/ re- direction is successful in teaching him how to walk on a leash. He does pull, but if you stop walking, he sits and looks at you for direction. Gibbs enjoys playing and running around our fenced back yard. Gibbs eats twice a day and knows he has to sit or lay down while we are getting his food ready and he does not start eating until he is given a release word. We are working hard on boundaries as his breed is known for pushing them! Gibbs’ paw is completely healed and his paw is so fluffy you can hardly tell he is missing 2 toes. He has no limitations and does everything a typical puppy does. He absolutely loves car rides! He sits in the passenger seat and looks out the window or falls asleep. Gibbs has found his voice and can get mouthy at times, like a typical husky does! Don’t miss out on this awesome puppy.

4/10/23-It’s official Gibbs is ready for adoption! He just had his sutures removed a few days early today from his toe amputation. Trust me when I tell you being two digits short doesn’t bother him one bit!  Gibbs is a typical happy, playful 15 week old Husky Puppy. He weighs about 20 pounds currently. He is very friendly and playful with other dogs (currently in a foster with 3 Great Danes!) and loves kids & people. Don’t miss out on this wonderful puppy!

4/5/23-Gibbs is healing well from his toe amputation. His stitches can be removed 4/13 and then he is ready to go to his forever family! He is around 20 pounds now. Based on his growth & weight he is most likely a Siberian husky as we were first told.  Gibbs has been doing very well with other dogs and loves to play. He does need to learn his manners with other dogs and will do best with a dog who teaches him the ropes and is tolerant of him jumping, play barking, etc. He plays well with children and loves everyone he meets. He has not been around cats to know how he is with them.  He loves car rides and typically sleeps during them. Gibbs is still working on potty training. His wound can not get wet, so going outside has been difficult. He walks well on a leash with reminders not to pull. He has been puppy nipping less. He has been jumping on counters and people, so we are working on correcting that behavior. We are also working on not going through open doors for his safety. He knows sit and lay down and is very food motivated.  He is crate trained and has an occasional accident in the crate. His crate is his safe space and he will lay in it on his own. He does not bark in the crate unless he has been it in for awhile and needs to go to the bathroom. Gibbs is a typical high energy puppy and will require dedication to training and daily exercise!

3/30/23-It’s surgery day for Gibbs SCBR’s super adorable husky puppy! Keep him in your thoughts for a speedy recovery! Gibbs came into SCBR in February at 8 weeks old with a degloving injury to his paw and leg. He was from a puppy mill and surrendered to our vet partner in Ohio due to his injury. We have no idea how the injury occurred but it was quite horrific. While in Ohio the vet did surgery to amputate a toe and debridement of his wound. The toe next to the amputated toe was broken and the Ohio vet hoped it would heal with bandaging. Once Gibbs arrived in NY he had daily vet visits for bandage changes and checking the wound. It quickly became apparent that the broken toe wasn’t going to heal and was so badly broken the bone isn’t attached. Today Gibbs is having surgery to amputate the broken toe. We hope this is the final step in his recovery & he will be able to go home soon!
Gibbs has had so many vet visits (and vet bills!) in his short life. If you would like to donate to help with some of Gibbs vet costs it would be much appreciated. We can only help the high medical dogs like Gibbs with the help of your donations and our amazing foster homes. Donations by mail:

3/20/23-Gibbs went to the vet on 3/17 for his rabies, second parvo distemper and check up on his paw. While his wound is healing well we have decided it is in Gibbs’ best interest to remove his left second toe as it is not connected to a bone and catches on things. Gibbs will be undergoing the toe operation in the next couple weeks.
Gibbs is a typical puppy and we are working on not nipping and re-directing behavior with toys. Gibbs is able to climb gates and does push to get through doorways. Gibbs breed is known for being escape artists so we’re are trying our best to break him of these habits for his own safety. Gibbs enjoys playing and will play fetch for as long as his people will. He does have some difficulty settling on his own, he has a lot of energy! He settles quickly in the crate and sleeps all night in the crate.
He is still working on potty training. His paw can not get wet, so going outside in WNY winter weather is difficult.  Gibbs enjoys playing with other dogs but does not pick up on cues when the other dog has had enough. If his new family has a dog, he would do best with a dog who is very tolerant of his puppy behaviors and can teach him the ropes.
Gibbs loves to chew on nylabones, stuffed toys, kongs and anything he can find in the house!  Overall, Gibbs is a typical happy, friendly puppy who will need a family consistent with training to stop poor puppy behaviors. Gibbs goes to work with me weekly and enjoys socializing and getting love from everyone he sees!

3/1/23-Gibbs came into rescue last Wednesday the 22nd. He is 9 weeks old & the vet paperwork says he is a Siberian husky but other vet techs have said he looks more like a malamute puppy. Hopefully as he grows his new home will get a better idea! He is from a puppy mill in Ohio and was in a de-gloving incident. Gibbs received veterinary care in Ohio which included amputating his left lateral toe, and debridement of his wound.
We are expecting his second toe to fall off during the healing process as there is no attached bone and the wound extends to his carpal pad. Gibbs then had to go to our local vet daily for wound dressing changes for 4 days. He has progressed to weekly vet checks. He does well with me doing his dressing changes and his wound is open to air as much as possible to help with healing.
While his wound is significant and is going to be a long healing process, Gibbs is a typical puppy. He loves everyone, wants to play and run and doesn’t know anything is wrong.
Gibbs goes to work with me at a nursing home daily. He is fantastic with the elderly residents and loves to socialize. I keep a wagon at work with a dog bed and he knows it’s time to settle and nap when I put him in it. He also enjoys car rides and knows it’s time to settle when he gets in the car, he rides in the passenger seat.
Gibbs is doing well with crate training and if he fusses in the crate he typically settles with 10 minutes. Potty training is a work in progress as his wound cannot get wet. Gibbs loves to play with other dogs and does well with my Great Danes. He also loves kids.
