5/02/23-We don’t have any cats or a way to cat test Clare but one of my poodles is quite the hunter or so he thinks he is…barking at rabbits, birds, squirrels & running in the yard thinking he can fly or climb trees like them. LOL Clare hasn’t reacted to any of this. She just watches, almost entertained by him. So with dog savvy cats we think Clare will probably be ok. Most of the puppy mill dogs are good with cats too as they typically have a lot of barn cats taking care of vermin.

5/01/23-Clare continues to adjust and her little Terrier personality is emerging. She is very affectionate and becoming more playful. She is eating more now, drinking lots of water. She still has difficulty leash walking; she just sits down and will go no further. We keep trying though. Clare climbs stairs now but still needs assistance going down them.  She doesn’t care for the crate. She likes to be outdoors but has had some accidents in the house. Frequent opportunities are provided for her to go out but she slinks off and does her thing in the house. This occurs most often when I am not home but other family members are. Clare is a good sweet girl who I believe will benefit from some training and reassurance.

4/27/23-Clare is doing quite well. She is a sweet little friendly girl who gets along easily with other dogs. She seems to enjoy their companionship though looks to her humans for guidance and reassurance. Different sounds, loud noises, and sudden movements frighten her right now.  We have not heard her bark yet! She is starting to eat a bit more. She is slowly learning stairs; much patience and perseverance will be needed with leash walking. She takes a few steps and then sits down. She has had 3 (small) accidents in the house in the past 5 days. I think 1-2 of them were our fault, not allowing her enough outside time which she loves by the way! Clare is not fond of the crate at all. But last evening she did go in on her own and rubbed around on the dog bed. So there’s hope she will learn to associate it with positivity. Clare is a little love and such a good girl & ready for her new home!

4/22/23-Clare reluctantly went into the crate last night but settled in pretty quickly. Not a peep all night and crate was dry in the morning. My yorkie poo is totally uninterested in her (or any other dogs) so although Clare is curious and follows her around, she’s respectful of her. Poor girl has an odd tongue, like a piece missing, who knows what happened at the mill. Since she arrived here last night she has been drinking water steadily, not very interested in food. I even wet it a bit but still not too interested. She did have one tooth extraction so I’m sure that’s causing some pain still. She loves being outside!  I let her out on the deck and she walks around checking out new smells and sounds. Attempted to take her for a walk on leash but she wasn’t getting it. She’s smart and I’m sure she’ll pick it up easily with more practice. She started out last night and this morning pacing but has since slowed down and now when I sit, she sits or lies down. She’s loves being petted and brushed, she gives kisses and overall she’s a very sweet girl!

04/21/23-Clare is a beautiful 5 year old female Wheaten Terrier. She was saved from being killed by a puppy mill as they were just done breeding her. She arrived safely into rescue tonight thanks to her transport & overnight volunteers.
We gave her a bath! She was more tolerant than I thought she would be. I’ll work on cleaning her face tomorrow, I think she’s had enough today. She is very sweet and curious.
